News - Boherbue Comprehensive:
Take Initiative on Youth Mental Health
It is presently estimated that at least 1 in 5 young people suffers from some form of serious emotional disturbance in their teens,
and it is estimated that 1 in 10 young people engage in self-harming behaviour.
According to Geraldine Sheedy, Director of South West Counselling,
research shows that adolescents are most likely to seek counselling in a familiar environment.
This indicates a real need for accessible counselling and support services for young people in our community.
Boherbue Comprehensive, in recognising the importance of providing support to young people,
have initiated a partnership agreement to ensure the young people in their school get the professional support they may need.
Shelia Harmon, Counselling Psychologist, SouthWest Counselling Centre is providing support to the students of Boherbue Comprehensive one day per week.
