Our approach to Family Systems Therapy is based on the work of Bert Hellinger and focuses on the bonds that hold us together as a family. These bonds can be supportive and nourishing or painful and consuming depending on whether they allow for the free flow of love or whether they block it. The love can be blocked or constricted when certain requirements or orders aren’t fulfilled.

• Everybody in the family has a right to belong
• Everybody needs honouring and to be in their rightful place.
• Those who came later take from those who come earlier
• Parents give; children take
• Guilt and merit belong with those who earned them
• In a relationship between adults, the giving and taking needs to be in equilibrium

When these orders aren’t followed it causes an entanglement. Entanglement comes in the form of feelings of guilt, misguided loyalty, unhealthy behaviour, illness or unhappiness. The family systems work provides an opportunity to identify ones entanglement. By seeing the entanglement we can begin the process of finding an appropriate solution.

Noel Linehan (M.I.A.C.P.)

Noel Linehan (M.I.A.C.P.) is a registered Gestalt Psychotherapist and has trained extensively in Family Systems Therapy with The Bert Hellinger Association of Ireland, Prof. Franz Rupert, Dr. Ursula Franke and Dr. Albrecht Mahr, amongst others. He has also trained and worked as a Registered General Nurse and in Community Development with The Cork Social and Health Education Project. He has worked in The SouthWest Counselling Centre and in private practice since 2001.
